Floreat Rossallia!

Dear All,

As the academic year is now drawing to a definitive close, I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude to all Rossallians and their families. Rossall is a truly outstanding community of which I have been immeasurably proud to have been a member. Thank you so much for the incredible kindness and friendliness that has been extended towards the Quartermain family over the years. We will miss the Fylde Coast enormously but I know that the connections that we have made here, and the friendships that have evolved, will endure long into the future.

Above all else, Rossall produces the most incredible young people who are creative, compassionate, confident and ambitious. It has been an absolute delight to watch so many young people flourish and achieve their dreams.

Recently, The Daily Telegraph published a tool that purports to rank independent schools in terms of their value for money. It is a disappointingly crude tool as it attempts to  plot fees against results in public examinations. Although it places Rossall amongst the very top independent schools in the UK, I think we would all agree that the true value of this community cannot be measured by such arbitrary and reductive means. The true value of this place is reflected in the outstanding quality of the people who call Rossall their home and elect to dedicate so much of their lives to the wellbeing of our children. The true value is reflected in the intellectual, social, cultural and moral purpose of a school community that is determined to help young people fulfill their potential; no matter what  their starting point in life. The true value is reflected in the diverse and vibrant young people who are proud to call themselves Rossallians.

As a parent, I look at our Sixth Formers and I feel inspired and reassured that this is an intrinsically excellent community. The fact that our older students serve as such effective role models for our younger children reflects very positively upon the overall health, ethos and values of our school.

As a family, we have been very happy at Rossall and all that remains is for us to wish our fellow Rossallians all the very best for the future. Thank you so  much for entrusting us with the education of your children. At a time when numbers are diminishing across the independent sector, I am delighted that Rossall will begin the new academic year in a very strong position.

It is now time to sign off for good and to wish my successor, Mr Andrew McBride, every blessing as we look towards September. I know that Rossall will continue to thrive long into the future and that Andrew’s leadership will be dynamic, exciting and absolutely brilliant for all at Rossall.

In the meantime, I hope that you have a wonderful summer filled with plenty of fun, laughter and precious time spent with loved ones.

Floreat Rossallia!

All best wishes,

Jeremy
