“We were delighted to host our very first Dance Academy Showcase on Monday and what a fantastic evening it was!

The event began with a welcome reception, where guests enjoyed champagne and canapés before making their way into Big School for the main performance. Our talented students took to the stage to perform impressive routines featuring a mix of Dance Academy pieces alongside GCSE and A-level work.

The standard of performance throughout the evening was truly exceptional. Every student performed with confidence, creativity and passion, showcasing the incredible talent we have within our school community. We couldn't believe this was our first ever Dance Showcase given the professionalism and quality on display - it felt as though this tradition had been established for years, with so much hidden talent finally getting the spotlight it deserves.

We are immensely proud of everything our dancers and staff have achieved this year and this showcase was a wonderful celebration of their hard work and dedication. It has been an outstanding first year for the Dance Academy and we are incredibly excited about what the future holds.”

rossall dance academy presents

an evening of dance

This week provided a great snapshot of Pelican House life as students came together on Rossall Beach for their house meeting.

Dressed in their new house hoodies, students enjoyed a unique mid-afternoon session by the sea, making the most of Rossall’s coastal setting and the opportunity to build house spirit outside the classroom. It is not every school that can hold a house meeting on the beach, highlighting what makes life at Rossall School so distinctive.

We are also pleased to introduce The Pride of Pelican, the House Leadership Team for 2026–27, who will lead and support Pelican House throughout the year ahead.

The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain Ready To Shine Workshop Tour

Last week, the NYBBGB team visited St Martin’s in the Fields, London, Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester, and the University of Birmingham for three audition skills workshops, bringing together talented young brass and percussion players for inspiring days of music-making, learning and performance.

Among those attending were three Rossall Prep students, Joel, Henry and Stanley, who joined young musicians from across the country to develop their confidence, audition skills and musicianship in a supportive environment.

Each day concluded with an informal concert for parents and families, giving participants the opportunity to showcase everything they had worked on throughout the workshop.

Across the three venues, the NYBBGB team worked with 66 young musicians, many of whom travelled from far and wide to take part. Feedback from participants and families was overwhelmingly positive, and it was inspiring to see so many young people embracing new musical challenges with enthusiasm and determination.

Every participant, parent, tutor, host venue and supporter helped make this year’s Ready To Shine workshops such a success. As one of the UK’s leading youth music charities, the NYBBGB remains committed to inspiring the next generation of brass and percussion musicians, and after this week, the future looks incredibly bright.

Year 7 Pupils Selected for CBBC Filming Opportunity

Rossall School is delighted to congratulate Sophia in Year 6 and Delilah in Year 7, who were recently selected to appear in an episode of the CBBC programme Bro's In Control.

The girls secured their places through a self-tape audition process and spent the day filming on St Annes Beach. The experience provided a unique opportunity to see first-hand how a television programme is produced, from filming through to production.

Sophia and Delilah thoroughly enjoyed the day and gained valuable insight into the television industry while working alongside the production team and presenters.

The episode is expected to air in late autumn, and we look forward to watching their appearance on screen. Congratulations to both pupils on this exciting achievement.

Congratulations to this week's Headmaster’s Award recipients, Ellie [Wren House] and Abdul [Dragon House], whose achievements showcase the wonderful breadth of talent within our school community.

Ellie demonstrated outstanding leadership and initiative in organising the girls’ House Hockey competition. Her enthusiasm, dedication and ability to bring together students, staff and House monitors created a fantastic event that saw girls representing their Houses with pride, determination and team spirit.

Meanwhile, Abdul has earned national recognition through the prestigious Anthea Bell Translation Competition, receiving a commendation for his exceptional Spanish translation. Competing against thousands of students across the country, Abdul’s success reflects remarkable creativity, linguistic skill and academic excellence.

Both students have gone above and beyond in their respective fields, and we are delighted to celebrate their achievements. Very well done, Ellie and Abdul!

Strong Performance from Old Rossallian Greg Holmes at St Andrews Links Trophy

Congratulations to Old Rossallian Greg Holmes, who has produced an excellent performance at the prestigious St Andrews Links Trophy following a late exemption earned through victory at the Scottish Men’s Amateur Championship.

Greg made the most of his opportunity, delivering a superb week of golf that culminated in a 15th place finish on a highly competitive leaderboard. He closed out the tournament in style with an outstanding final round of 67 on the iconic Old Course at St Andrews.

A fantastic achievement and a testament to his consistency, composure, and skill at the highest level of amateur golf.

Year 7 Geography Trip to White Scar Cave and Ingleton Waterfalls

On our Year 7 Geography trip to White Scar Cave, we had the opportunity to explore one of the longest show caves in the UK. It was amazing to learn about the history of the cave and how it was discovered, as well as seeing the incredible rock formations up close. We learned how stalactites and stalagmites form over thousands of years and were fascinated by the underground waterfalls and streams that continue to shape the cave today. Walking through the huge caverns and narrow passageways made us feel like real explorers!

After our cave tour, we visited the beautiful Ingleton Waterfalls Trail. As we walked through the stunning Yorkshire countryside, we learned about the geology of the area and how different types of rock have helped to create the dramatic landscape. We stopped at several waterfalls and discovered how erosion and the varying hardness of rocks contribute to their formation. It was a fantastic day of learning outside the classroom, and we all enjoyed seeing the geographical features we had studied come to life. The trip was both educational and great fun, and it has given us a much better understanding of the natural world around us.

Celebrating Excellence and Dedication in Year 10

A special celebration took place for our top Year 10 girls, recognising those who achieved the highest number of merits.

To reward their outstanding effort and consistency, the students were invited to enjoy a special breakfast and tea in the Headmaster’s Office at Rossall School, creating a memorable and well-earned moment of recognition.

Adding to the occasion, each student was given the opportunity to invite a teacher of their choice to join them, making the experience even more personal and meaningful.

It was a fantastic celebration of hard work, commitment, and positive achievement across the year group.

WAYS TO BE WELL AT ROSSALL

This week has been a busy week for the Duke of Edinburgh here at school, and time after time, staff accompanying the expeditions have used a common phrase to describe what they observed in the students: resilience.  The Duke of Edinburgh program is just one way we can encourage resilience in young people: carrying rucksacks, navigating routes, working as a team, and, for some, camping outdoors for the first time away from the creature comforts of home. The program is designed to help children and young people develop confidence, independence and ‘bouncebackability’. And when faced with a day of rain, this really puts resilience to the test! Resilience is often celebrated when children successfully complete a challenge or show grit in the face of adversity. However, an important question for all of us as parents, carers and educators is: how can we help our children develop resilience so that they are equipped when challenges arise? How can we nurture that ability to recover, adapt and move forward when things do not go according to plan? The NHS offers a range of practical suggestions for supporting resilience in children and young people, helping them to develop the confidence and coping strategies needed to navigate life's ups and downs. The parent guide below reinforces many of these ideas and provides useful strategies that families can use at home.By encouraging resilience in everyday situations, we can help our children build the skills they need not only to overcome challenges, but also to thrive because of them.

with love from chapel

When Year 1 came to visit our school chapel as part of their learning about buildings of worship, we learned a popular song together. The song declares that our God is not small, or even middle-sized, but a great, big God, higher than any skyscraper and able to dive deeper than any submarine.

This was something that Year 1 did not find difficult to understand at all.

We found God in the stories told through the stained-glass windows, in the light of the candles we lit, and in the sound of the bell when you pull the bell rope really hard.

We discovered that, when you are six years old, our chapel is a wonderful place to explore the things we find in places of worship. Pews are great for climbing through, the enormous eagle lectern is a little too big to read from, and the Bible is almost as big as we are. So there is no problem at all with God being our great, big God.

So why is it so much harder when we grow up?

Why do we so often argue God out of the picture, try to solve everything on our own, and feel that we cannot possibly rely on someone beyond our own logic? Why do we tend to make God small?

The song reminds us that God knows us and loves us. So let us rely on that truth, because just as Year 1 sang:

“Our God is a great, big God!”

With love from Chapel
