IB students celebrate best ever examination results

Rossall School’s International Baccalaureate (IB) students are celebrating their best ever set of results, marking a historic milestone for the Sixth Form.

With a 100% pass rate and an average point score of 36, significantly above both UK and global averages, Rossallians are now heading off to pursue a diverse range of exciting pathways, including some of the most competitive university courses in the UK and internationally.

A remarkable 50% of the cohort achieved the equivalent of AAA at A Level, and an outstanding 70% were awarded the prestigious bilingual diploma, a qualification highly regarded by universities and employers alike. That so many students achieved such impressive outcomes while studying entirely in their second, or even third, language is a testament not only to their own perseverance, but also to the unwavering support and dedication of their teachers.

An impressive number of students achieved 40 points or more, placing them in the top 10% of candidates worldwide. Meanwhile, 63% of Higher Level grades were 6s and 7s, equivalent to A and A* at A Level. These results are all the more remarkable considering they were achieved alongside the demands of studying three Standard Level subjects, completing an Extended Essay, and navigating the intellectual challenges of the Theory of Knowledge course.

Particular congratulations go to Anna W, Livia G and Dani M, who all achieved 44 out of a possible 45 points, a distinction earned by only 1% of IB candidates globally.

This exceptional cohort will be taking up places at top universities including Cambridge, Durham, Imperial College London, Glasgow, Queen’s University Belfast, Bath, and IE University in Madrid.

Rossall is a non-selective school that places great value on nurturing the whole person. We encourage students to explore their learning both inside and outside the classroom and to build the strong, supportive relationships that underpin confidence, happiness, and a lifelong love of learning. Many of our students achieved results that exceeded expectations, and we are especially delighted with the exceptional value-added scores, a true reflection of their personal growth and the transformative power of a Rossall education.

We are incredibly proud of all our IB students. Not only have they demonstrated academic excellence, but they have also been exemplary role models, contributing richly to school life through sport, drama, music, and leadership roles such as Senior and House Monitors. Their legacy will be felt for years to come, and we can’t wait to see all that they will accomplish in the future.
