With Love From Chapel - summer Term - Week 8

Today, our chapel felt like a refuge from the warm air in all the other school buildings. While we usually struggle with the temperatures in this beautiful old building (and have at times seen our own breath because it was that cold), they were a blessing today. A refreshing and cool place of calm, our refuge for body and mind before heading into this afternoon’s rather warm classes.

Today is also World Refugee Day , a day where we remember that there are currently 123 million people worldwide who are forcibly displaced and often live in fear for their own safety, health and dignity. A day that serves as a reminder that our work for others is never done while there are conflicts prevailing. A day, where we realise how blessed we are that our biggest problem is that our classrooms are a little too warm.

In his parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus reminds us that our ‘neighbour’ could be anyone, far beyond national boundaries, ethnicities, culture and religion and that we are called to do the same as the Good Samaritan and look after those in need whoever they are.

It is not always easy to love others the way we feel we need to look after ourselves the Good Samaritan did not choose the easy way, and yet he chose the right way. An important thing to remember on World Refugee Day.
