All boarding students must appoint an AEGIS Gold or BSA accredited guardian as a condition of entry. Our Guardianship Guidelines document explains Rossall’s policy on educational guardians and can be viewed here.

Holiday and travel arrangements must be submitted at least 3 weeks prior to the end of each term and half term. Regardless of if you are staying in the UK with your Guardian or returning home, holiday and travel details should be submitted by completing our dedicated online form:

For students flying from and to the UK we can provide a shuttle service to and from Manchester and Liverpool Airports. For the safety and well-being of our students and in order to adhere to driver regulated hours, the airport shuttle service for arrivals will operate between the hours of 6.00am and 9.00pm, and for flights departing from Manchester/Liverpool between 9.00am and 11.00pm.

For departures students will leave the school campus a minimum of 4 hours prior to their flight time to take into consideration traffic delays or check-in delays. Therefore please consider this when booking your child’s flights. Please be aware that the majority of our students fly into Manchester airport and therefore shuttle services are provided every 2-3 hours on the main arrival day. This may mean a short, supervised wait, depending on arrival times.

We offer transport to Blackpool North train station. Travel by rail is only permitted for students who are 16 years and over.

Once you have submitted the details, you will receive an automated email that confirms the details.

All boarders arriving at Manchester Airport should make their way to the Information desk in the Arrivals Hall of Terminal 1 where Rossall staff will be located.

‘Exeats’ are approved times for full boarders to be away from the School site overnight during the week (eg for a University interview) or on a weekend during the school term dates (eg to stay at a day students house, visit their guardians or to stay with visiting family). 

1. Boarders should discuss the exeat request and the arrangements for such with their Houseparents in the first instance. 

2. If appropriate arrangements are in place Houseparents will request that the Exeat Request Jotform is completed by parents or guardians. If the boarder is staying with someone other than their parent or guardian then the exeat form must be completed by the host adult as well. 

3. Final approval will be given by the Head of Boarding in consultation with House staff.

4. Exeat weekends are limited to 1 weekend per half term, however exceptional circumstances should be discussed with Houseparents.

Exeat Procedures

• Boarders must return by 7.00pm on Sunday or, by special arrangement with the House Staff, by 8.00am on Monday. 

• Exeat arrangements must be confirmed by 10.00pm on the Monday prior to the requested exeat weekend. 

• Boarding house staff take their duty of care very seriously. They retain the highest expectations of the hosts who kindly offer to take in boarders at the weekends and who should provide suitable arrangements for travel, food, sleeping and activities. We strongly recommend that hosts return boarders directly to school, other arrangements do not ensure continuity of care. 

• House Staff are not in loco parentis of students during the travel time to the host family.

• If exeat arrangements change, House Staff should be informed immediately. We do not allow boarders to take weekends away in hotels or bed and breakfasts without the presence of an appropriate, responsible adult. 

• Boarders should ensure they have contact details for their House Staff whilst on exeat.

• Public transport can be restricted on a Sunday. Boarders and their hosts should check that trains or buses are running and adequate time should be left for a comfortable return to school.

We are fortunate to be located between two vibrant local towns - Fleetwood and Cleveleys - both of which offer a variety of supermarkets, cafés, and independent shops for our boarders to enjoy, and can be accessed on foot or by tram.

Senior boarders (Years 10 - 13) are granted “town leave” on Saturday afternoons from 12:30pm to 5:15pm, and on Sunday afternoons from 12:00pm to 5:15pm, allowing them to visit either Fleetwood or Cleveleys. In the interest of safeguarding, boarders must adhere to the following requirements before leaving campus:

• Inform a member of the House staff of their intended destination and estimated time of return.

• Demonstrate that their mobile phone is fully charged and that location sharing is enabled via the Life360 app.

• Confirm the name(s) of the companion(s) accompanying them - town leave is only permitted in pairs or groups.

• Sign out and sign back in using the House log.

Year 9 boarders are also permitted town leave but must do so in groups of no fewer than three.

In addition to weekend town leave, Year 13 boarders are allowed off-campus time on Fridays after school, from 4:30pm to 6:15pm. They may also request special permission to visit Blackpool town.

Junior boarders (Years 5 - 8) will have access to the local towns via supervised trips with their House staff at weekends.

Boarders in Years 5 to 9 are not permitted to use their mobile phones during the school day. They are provided with designated times in the evenings and at weekends to access electronic devices, during which they may communicate with their parents. Outside these allocated periods, parents may contact their children via the Houseparent.

Boarders in Year 10 are also restricted from using mobile phones during the school day. However, they have unrestricted access to their devices after 5:30pm on weekdays and throughout the weekend.

Boarders in Years 11 to 13 are granted full access to their mobile phones, though they are expected to refrain from using them visibly around the school campus during the day.

For boarders in Years 10 to 13, electronic devices are not collected overnight. This policy is built on trust and education, with the expectation that students will use their devices responsibly. Should a boarder exhibit poor sleep habits, declining academic performance, or inappropriate use of technology, overnight collection of devices may be enforced at the discretion of the Houseparents and may also be requested by parents.

To encourage social interaction and maintain a respectful dining environment, the use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited in the dining hall during meal times.

On the campus we have a shop and a cafe. Students are able to purchase smaller items such as snacks, drinks, essential items and stationery. For larger items such as clothing and sports equipment, students in years 10 -  13 are permitted to add it to the school bill unless parents request otherwise. Students in years 7 - 9 are not permitted to add it to the school bill unless parents give consent via email. Communications regarding this should be sent to rosshop@rossall.org.uk

All medical details are submitted prior to arrival and update requests are sent annually. However if any details change during the course of the academic year please email our medical team: medical@rossall.org.uk

On arrival, all medications and supplements must be handed to the Houseparents. These will be reviewed by our medical team to ensure they comply with UK regulations.

Due to differences in prescribing laws and medication licensing in the UK, any prescribed medication brought from overseas may need to be withheld. 

If necessary, suitable alternatives will be prescribed by Rossall’s School Doctor, in line with UK medical and legal standards.

Please ensure any medication is labelled in English with  your child’s full name and date of birth and directions for use. 

To enable any prescribed medications to be administered at Rossall, a prescription and recent clinic letter including diagnosis is required.
