Royal navy

The Royal Navy CCF section at Rossall School is small and friendly, taking pride in high standards of discipline, whilst offering a unique blend of naval tradition and teamwork.

The section is headed by Lieutenant (RN CCF) Rebecca Heath, who alongside her role at Rossall, is training to become a Deck Officer in the Merchant Navy.

Cadets in the Royal Navy Section will engage in a rich and varied training programme throughout the academic year, including:

  • Syllabus Training:

Cadets learn essential naval skills, from seamanship and

drill to navigation and core naval knowledge.

  • Adventurous Training:

Opportunities for cadets to engage in a range of activities

including scuba diving, sailing, powerboating, mountain

biking and hiking. Designed to build confidence courage,

teamwork and resilience.

  • Leadership Development:

As cadets progress through the ranks, they are able to take

on leadership roles, from becoming a divisional officer to the

mess president, these opportunities develop leadership, management,

initiative and problem-solving skills.

  • Personal and Team Growth:

Whether through team-building exercises or individual duties,

cadets gain self-discipline, perseverance and a strong sense

of camaraderie.

  • Teamwork and Service:

Working closely with peers, cadets learn the importance of

cooperation, trust, and service to their community.

Junior cadets (Year 9s) begin with foundational activities and team-building exercises, whilst more senior cadets take on instructional and leadership roles.

The training plan is packed with highlights including:

  • Termly Field Days (Sailing in Southport)

  • Opportunities for two summer camps, Rossall’s RAF/RN Camp and CCF Summer Camp held at Britannia Royal Naval College

  • Annual Mess Dinner

  • Senior Leadership Weekend held at BRNC
