Exciting opportunity to visit Krakow

The History and Politics Department is proposing a school tour to Kraków, Poland in February 2027. The visit offers a cultural learning experience that supports Year 9 HPQ studies of the Holocaust and future Year 10 GCSE History content. It also aligns with AQA GCSE History Paper 1: Germany 1890–1945 and relevant A Level History and Politics topics. The trip, last run in 2019, has proved to be an extremely valuable experience. All of Year 9, along with Year 10 History and Year 12 History and Politics students, are invited to sign up.

An Open Day at Rossall provides an insight into the vibrant and varied life of our wonderful community.
You will be able to visit any departments or specialist programmes your child is interested in and talk directly with both staff and students who will be there to answer any questions.
eco club champions reuseable living
The Eco Club has been actively collecting bags for life from boarding houses to encourage students to choose reusable options instead of single use plastic bags when visiting town. This initiative supports the Cut Your Carbon campaign running across the Senior School throughout November. The club will continue to share sustainability guidance and promote upcoming activities as it works to strengthen environmentally responsible habits within the Rossall community.
This week we are celebrating the outstanding work of Lara D. whose Graphics book brand project is inspired by the iconic Narnia series. Lara has created beautiful hand drawn artwork and further refined her illustrations using Photoshop. Her creativity and attention to detail have produced a truly impressive body of work. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and cannot wait to see the final pieces displayed in the upcoming exhibition.

An Inspiring Maths Session with Sophie McClean from King’s College London
“Last Friday, Rossall had the pleasure of welcoming Sophie McClean, a PhD student from King’s College London, as our guest speaker for a special Mathematics Department event.
Sophie delivered an engaging and thought-provoking presentation that explored the fascinating connection between mathematics, creativity and everyday life. Her distinctive approach to the subject encouraged everyone to view mathematics in a new and exciting way.
Sophie’s talk highlighted how mathematical concepts can be expressed through shapes, patterns and colours, demonstrating that mathematics is not only about numbers and equations but also about visual imagination and design.
Following Sophie’s inspiring presentation, the event continued with the much-anticipated Inter-Schools Mathematics Competition. Rossall was delighted to host teams from Morecambe Bay, AKS and Montgomery High School, who competed in a series of demanding and intellectually stimulating challenges. Working under pressure and racing against the clock, teams put their problem-solving skills to the test in an atmosphere filled with excitement, determination and friendly rivalry.
For many students, this was their first experience of tackling a maths challenge as part of a team. The competition provided a fantastic opportunity to collaborate, think critically and apply mathematical knowledge in a competitive setting, all while building confidence and teamwork skills.
Overall, the day proved to be an enriching and highly enjoyable occasion, offering valuable insight for students considering future studies in maths. Sophie’s inspiring presentation, combined with the energy and enthusiasm of the competition, left a lasting impression and reinforced the message that mathematics can be both intellectually challenging and genuinely fun.”

christmas card winners 2025
We are delighted to share the winning designs for the Rossall School Christmas Cards 2025. This year, students from across all age groups have showcased remarkable creativity, producing a wonderful variety of festive artwork. From detailed fine art paintings to imaginative digital designs created in Photoshop, every form of art has been explored to bring our 2025 collection to life.
We are pleased to announce that Emma C. is this year’s overall winner. Her design will be the principal card for 2025 and will receive the highest print run. Emma’s work beautifully reflects the spirit of the season and the artistic excellence within our school community.
Congratulations also to our talented runners-up: Felicity R., Ayla D., Ellie W., Kevin L., and Chloe L. Each of their designs will be included in our special Christmas card packs.
These festive packs will be available to purchase from the Ross Shop and are perfect for sharing a touch of Rossall spirit with family and friends.

Movember at Rossall: A Fantastic £1,699 Raised!
“Sunday marked the end of this year’s Movember campaign, and while our teachers and Sixth Formers may finally be saying goodbye to their proudly cultivated moustaches, the impact of their efforts will last far beyond November.
After a recent hiatus, it was fantastic to see Movember make a strong and enthusiastic return to Rossall this year. The spirit, humour and commitment shown by everyone involved reminded us why this cause matters so much. Movember is more than a fun excuse to grow a moustache, it is a global movement supporting vital work around men’s mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
We are delighted to share that the Rossall Movember Team raised an incredible £1,699 this year. This is a huge collective achievement, demonstrating both dedication and compassion within our community. A special mention must go to Shane S, who contributed an outstanding £500 through his Movember page. His fantastic effort helped push the team total far beyond our expectations.
Thank you to every member of staff and every Sixth Former who took part, donated or supported the cause. Whether you grew a moustache, sponsored a friend or simply helped raise awareness, you played a part in something meaningful.
Although the moustaches have now been shaved away, there is still time to donate to support Movember’s important work. Every contribution, big or small, continues to make a real difference.

Former Student Myles Davies Returns to Inspire Future Architects
Last Friday, former student Myles Davies returned to Rossall to speak to current Design and Technology students about architecture and his experience of completing his degree last year, followed by his move into practice this year. Myles talked about putting together a portfolio for applying to architecture degrees and also provided some useful insight into what to expect.
Myles attained a first-class degree from the Manchester School of Architecture, and his final degree show work has been featured on the Dezeen website.
It was great to see Myles again and to see how much he has progressed in the three years since I last taught him at Rossall. Myles studied the Product Design and Architecture course, which we run at A Level in the Design and Technology Department.
rossallian family carol service - sunday 7th december, 5pm
We are delighted to invite all students and their families to the Rossallian Family Carol Service 2025. Join us on Sunday 7 December at 5.00pm in the Chapel of St John the Baptist for an evening filled with festive music, candlelight and the joy of coming together as a community. This much loved celebration is a wonderful way to begin the Christmas season and we look forward to sharing the magic of traditional carols and readings with you.

Searching for the perfect Christmas present? Treat someone special to one of our adorable Dogs of Rossall calendars. Each month features a familiar furry face guaranteed to brighten even the chilliest winter morning.
For the coffee connoisseur in your life, our Rossall Roast coffee beans are a delicious way to start the day. Rich, smooth and wonderfully warming. Even better, Rossall Roast is currently on special offer. It was £9 and is now £7.50. Calendars are £4.50.

WELLBEING AT ROSSALL
This past Tuesday, Rossall joined schools around the UK to participate in Tech Time Out Tuesday. It was lovely to see pledges on our pledge board, where students took a tech break, with a particular focus on social media breaks.
Sunday saw the end of Movember, and while it may be the end of our teachers’ and sixth formers’ fuzzy upper lips, it is not the end of the story. The money raised will support Movember and its amazing causes, which tackle challenging issues and statistics around men's health and wellbeing. The whole team has done amazingly, raising £1,699!
As the days darken, the charity Action for Happiness is offering a free webinar with Professor Bruce Hood entitled Lessons for Living Well on December 8th at 19:00 GMT. If you would like more information, please click here.

Christmas is great, isn’t it?
Yesterday, we had our first Christmas Congers; and there was some serious volume in the chapel. It was an amazing sound and great fun - and Rose House sang beautifully enough to win the Congers Cup.
Today we had a visit from Rev Andrew Downes and …from the Fleetwood Churches, who came in to talk to us about The Pantry in Fleetwood. We found out just how many people in our neighbourhood are struggling this Christmas and rely on the food they can pick up from the Pantry, but also how many people donate and volunteer and how much good they can do with it. We also learnt how much more help is needed to make sure those in need are looked after - especially at Christmas!
Over the next week, our 9 houses will build gingerbread houses, which will be auctioned off after our Family Carol Service (Dolphin won ‘best house’ two years in a row). All proceeds will be going to the Pantry.
In our last week of term, we will have our Christmas Jumper Day, where the Charity Committee will ask for food donations instead of money - these, too, will go to the Pantry.
So during your next shop, make sure you put that extra tin of beans in your trolley, and maybe add the Family Carol Service to your diary. Let’s make sure the shelves in the Pantry are stacked full this Christmas! Because Christmas is great, isn’t it.
