Rossall Cadets Rise to the Challenge on Their First Field Day of the Year

Rossall’s Combined Cadet Force began the year with a dynamic field day, engaging in military-style activities designed to test leadership, resilience, and teamwork. The event was enriched by the presence of representatives from the 1st Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, who worked closely with senior cadets to deliver authentic leadership challenges. Anzio Platoon earned the “Best Section Plaque” for their outstanding performance, while Royal Navy cadet Reuben Kemp was recognised as “Best Shot.” The day set a strong foundation for the year ahead, highlighting the values and commitment of Rossall’s cadets.

STUDENT SUCCESS: SSGT Strokeplay Golf Championship at Hollinwell

Huge congratulations to our Year 12 Molly C who has won the Girls SSGT Strokeplay Championship at Hollinwell.

This is Molly’s third individual win in a row in the girls category and we are immensely proud!

Year 12 Ana also secured 3rd place in the girls competition.

A big well done to our Boys team who finished runners up in the team competition with a strong showing from Tom P who finished 5th after a great second day total of -4! Josh G finished 7th and Oscar K 10th.

Well done to the whole team for a fantastic two days and yet another great tournament.

Headmaster's Award winners

This week we celebrate four outstanding Rossall students who have gone above and beyond in both learning and leadership.

Academic Award Winners:

  • Sofiia (Year 12 Wren House) shone during European Day of Languages, delivering a captivating Ukrainian lesson to Year 7. Her well-prepared resources and engaging approach had the class eager to learn new phrases.

  • Hope (Year 12 Dolphin House) impressed with her confident presentation on learning styles to Year 7, making a real impact on her younger peers.

Citizen Award Winners:

  • Wiktoria (Year 10 Dolphin House) exemplified initiative and leadership by creating a comprehensive ‘Top Tips’ presentation to support Year 9 students preparing for their GCSEs. Her work is practical, encouraging, and a fantastic example of service to others.

  • Oun (Year 10 Spread Eagle House) has made a flying start at Rossall, showing dedication, confidence, and excellence in his studies. His ambition to join the accelerated maths cohort and consistent positive contributions across school life make him a deserving recipient.

Congratulations to all four for demonstrating initiative, leadership, and the Rossall values.

PSHE, WORLD Mental Health Day & STUDENT VOICE

World Mental Health Day 2025: Access to Services in Emergencies

Today we celebrate World Mental Health Day 2025, and this year’s theme is Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies. We are marking the occasion with a non-uniform day themed Wear What Makes You Happy, and combining this with a movie night on Tuesday to raise money for the charity CALM – the Campaign Against Living Miserably.

Student Voice: Normalising Mental Health Conversations

Our Wellbeing Ambassadors bravely spoke in assembly on Monday about the areas of mental wellbeing they are working on. Their aim was to normalise conversations around mental health and to show that mental health is deeply individual.

Our PSHE lessons this week have echoed this focus. Year 8, for example, discussed how we wouldn’t hesitate to seek help for our physical health, and that our mental health should be no different. They also explored the idea that strong people lift others up, and reflected on what that might look like in their own lives.

Loudspeaker Workshop: Building Confidence and Resilience

On Thursday, KS4 and KS5 students took part in an exciting workshop led by Loudspeaker – an organisation that empowers young people to speak out and take action on the issues that matter most.

The day was fast-paced and interactive, focusing on resilience, perspective, and the future. It was inspiring to see so many students thinking deeply about dilemmas, with some even speaking solo on stage to their year group. The final activity on perspective was especially powerful, reminding students that we are not alone in our mental health.

WITH LOVE FORM CHAPEL

Sometimes, when we get really stressed and feel nothing is working out and nothing is going our way, we might consider ourselves as ‘broken’. We might think there is no way out, and we will never feel better about ourselves again. Somehow the idea of being ‘broken’ reflects this very well - it allows us to give up a little bit inside because, after all, what can we do if we are ‘broken’ already?

In Japanese Art, however, there is the concept of Kintsugi - to see Beauty in brokenness. Broken items are ‘fixed’ with gold, which is far more valuable than the ceramics that was broken in the first place. They are left stronger, better and much more beautiful than before.

Maybe, just maybe, this can also work for us - and we can emerge more beautiful from our challenges than before.

Jesus decided to allow himself to be ‘broken’ for us so that we all could emerge stronger, and so that we can all hope even in times of despair. And just like in Kintsugi art, the resurrected Jesus emerged even more beautiful.

On World Mental Health day, it’s important to remember that there is always hope - and we are offered ‘gold’ to repair us in the good news of Jesus Christ.

May you have blessed and healthy weekend!

- Mrs Kerstin Dixon

We are delighted to be working on the next edition of The Rossallian, our school newspaper that has become an integral part of Rossall School. This publication serves as a wonderful showcase of the exciting range of activities, events, and opportunities our pupils enjoy across both the senior and preparatory school. We are excited to continue sharing our community’s experiences and achievements with you.

Once again, The Rossallian will be available in both print and digital formats, reaching alumni, parents, staff, and friends of Rossall, as well as prospective families at open days and visits.

To support this initiative at no cost to the school, we are once again partnered with Timesed Ltd to invite a selection of high-quality local and regional businesses to advertise in our newspaper. We are grateful to those who have already participated and helped to make this publication possible.

As valued members of our school community, we want to ensure you have the first opportunity to take part. If you would like to learn more about advertising options within The Rossallian, please contact Carl Huyton directly at carl.huyton@times-ed.co.uk. Carl will also be reaching out to other local businesses in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your continued support in making The Rossallian a valuable and engaging publication for the Rossall community.
