Rossall celebrates another record-breaking year of GCSE results
Rossall students are celebrating exceptional GCSE results - with 45% achieving 7-9 or A*/A grades.
Following the success of A-level, BTEC and IBDP examinations this summer, the record-breaking results mean this year’s students are set to join the largest and most impressive cohort in recent history.
Year-on-year results at the school continue to go from strength to strength, building on outstanding results in 2025, representing the highest proportion of top grades ever achieved by Rossall students.
Award of Grade 9s has increased by 27% compared with last year’s record-breaking outcomes, and a total of 383 of grades awarded were 7–9, the equivalent of A*/A, compared with 304 last year.
Although the school is not academically selective, 77% of Rossall students received at least one grade 7–9, demonstrating the breadth of achievement across the cohort.
There were outstanding individual performances: Hope achieved a remarkable ten grade 9s and one grade 8, while Jemima, Oliver, Shamini, Archie, Oshiorumi, Harry and Sinmiloluwa each secured ten or more grade 7–9s.
Roxanne also achieved an exceptional seven grade 9s, with many other students achieving impressive suites of top grades across a broad range of subjects.
Rossall’s English department once again produced exceptional results, with 63% of English Language grades at 7-9 (A or A* equivalent), four times the national average and a 100% pass rate.
Art, Craft and Design pupils performed exceptionally well, with more than half of entries awarded grade 9 and four pupils, Hope, Tsz, Sinmiloluwa and Yufei named among the best performers in the country by exam board Cambridge OCR.
The school also celebrated its first set of results for its accelerated Mathematics programme, with its top Year 10 students achieving 100% grade 8 or 9.
Rossall prides itself on the value added to every student, and with many sitting examinations in their second or even third language - some within one year of joining - these outcomes reflect the ambition, resilience, and determination of Rossall students, as well as the expertise and dedication of their teachers.
Subject performances were equally strong: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and Food and Nutrition all achieved particularly strong top-grade profiles, while several smaller-entry subjects, including Music and several modern and first-language qualifications, also achieved outstanding outcomes.
Headmaster Andrew McBride said: “Today’s GCSE results are a wonderful reflection of the ambition, determination and sheer hard work of our students. These are stellar outcomes, of which the whole Rossall community can be immensely proud.”
Head of Year 11, Richard Catterall added: “Our Year 11 students have demonstrated outstanding results.
“They embraced the challenge of being well-prepared for the examinations and made a strong commitment to participating in a range of revision workshops and practice papers. They should be justifiably proud.
“It has been a privilege to support them over the last two years, and I look forward to seeing them thrive in the Sixth Form and beyond.”
