We want you to know that this is the right school for you and your child.

You will be able to visit any departments or specialist programmes your child is interested in and talk directly with both staff and students who will be there to answer any questions.

Diwali, the Festival of Light

Expertly led by Dharmika, Prisha, and Thishani, the Literary Farrell Society took part in an exciting exploration of the stories behind Diwali, the Festival of Light. The group discussed how light is used as a symbol in literature to represent ideas such as hope, truth, and goodness, while darkness can suggest fear, confusion, or evil.

They then made interesting links between Diwali and well-known books, including Shakespeare’s Macbeth, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, and J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.

In each of these stories, light plays an important role, helping to show characters’ emotions and struggles between good and evil.

By comparing these different texts, members of the society were able to see how the image of light connects stories from different cultures and times, showing its lasting power as a symbol in literature.

Gothic Literature

As part of their study of Gothic Literature, Year 9 enjoyed a guest lecture from Year 13 student Gemma, who has recently applied to study Architecture at university. Gemma explained the key features of Gothic architecture, providing examples from around the world and much closer to home. We then took a walk to capture some Gothic images from around our stunning campus, such as in the Square and Chapel. The photos students took will serve as stimuli for pieces of Gothic descriptive writing.

International Piano Academy

We were thrilled to welcome acclaimed international concert pianist and professor at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Rachel Cheung, to work with our International Piano Academy students this morning. A distinguished prizewinner in numerous international competitions, Rachel brought a wealth of experience, artistry, and insight to the masterclass. Throughout the session, she shared her deep musical understanding and expressive approach to performance, inspiring students to refine both their technique and interpretation.

The masterclass featured a diverse programme of works by Schubert, Grieg, and Haydn, allowing students to explore a range of musical styles and historical contexts. Rachel’s thoughtful guidance and engaging teaching style created a warm, motivating atmosphere in which students felt encouraged to take risks and develop their individual musical voices. It was a truly enriching experience for all who attended, leaving participants inspired and eager to continue their musical journey.

STUDENT SUCCESS: Graphic studies

Layla – Year 13 Graphics

Layla has shown outstanding commitment to her Graphics studies this year.

She regularly returns to work on her project during her free periods, during prep nights, Saturdays and after school, demonstrating impressive dedication and enthusiasm. Her current project is based on a stylish 'farmers market' magazine titled ' The Rural Root', which showcases her creativity and initiative as she has produced all of her own artwork for this and photography for the front cover.

It has been wonderful to see Layla’s confidence grow; although she was initially unsure whether Graphics was the right choice for her in Year 12, she has developed a real passion for the subject and now plans to continue studying it at university.

I am incredibly proud of her progress and the exceptional quality of her work.

ROYAL NAVY CCF

This week saw another exciting training night for our Royal Navy CCF cadets, as 10 were invited to Fleetwood Nautical College to experience life at the helm! Stepping into the Nautical College’s impressive Bridge Simulators, the cadets took command of virtual vessels, learning the essentials of ship handling, navigation and teamwork on the bridge. From turning a tanker short around in Dover, to manoeuvring at speed in a fast rescue craft in San Francisco, each of the cadets demonstrated impressive nerve and composure at the controls.

The visit was overseen by Captain Neil Atkinson, Head of Fleetwood Nautical College, who guided the cadets through the finer points of steering, teamwork and decision making. The afternoon offered a fascinating glimpse into the world of modern seafaring, and we extend a big thank you to Neil, Roger and the Nautical College team for giving our cadets such an inspiring introduction to maritime life. Finally, BZs (Bravo Zulus) are in order to all ten cadets for representing the Section with such enthusiasm and professionalism, thank you!

Headmaster's Award winners

We are delighted to announce Lukas (Pelican House) as the recipient of this week’s Rossall Citizen Award! Lukas has shown outstanding focus and determination, working tirelessly on his Silver DofE route planning after school. His commitment, curiosity, and perseverance in mastering the tricky route planning software have truly set him apart – what an inspiring example of Rossall spirit!

This week, we also celebrated several students with Lunch Queue Passes, Free Mondos Milkshakes, and £5 Mondos Vouchers – a small way to say thank you for their fantastic efforts and positive energy around school.

Well done to everyone for a brilliant half term, enjoy a well-earned break!

WELLBEING AT ROSSALL

It has been another exciting week in the world of Wellbeing at Rossall. We started with a movie night on Tuesday where Inside Out 2 was shown and snacks were sold to continue raising funds for the charity CALM. Our Wellbeing Ambassadors even made homemade double chocolate cookies to sell, which didn’t last long! In just over a week, the school has raised over £1000 for CALM, which is a real testament to the generosity and citizenship of our young people here at Rossall.

On Thursday, Key Stages 2 and 3 had a visit from the Fleetwood Police where they discussed Halloween and Bonfire Night safety. There was already a lot of knowledge about how to stay safe, but they also discussed how to be respectful of our neighbourhood when enjoying these events.

Finally, a group of our wonderful sixth form students completed their Youth Mental Health First Aid training this week. They dedicated 8 hours over the past two weeks to learning about mental health, signposting and self care. The future is in good hands with such caring young people in our community and a huge congratulations goes out to them.

- Mrs Jennifer Moore, Director of Wellbeing
