Rossall Delegations Shine at Stonyhurst Model United Nations

On Saturday, 24 January, Rossall sent two full delegations to the Stonyhurst Annual Model United Nations. It was a full day of committee debates and included a superb speech from a youth activist, as well as a fascinating fictional crisis event involving the collapse of Russia.

Our students came away with two special mentions and two commended delegate awards at the closing ceremony. Special recognition is also due to George and Prisha in Year 13, who served as guest chairs for the event. The whole enterprise required a great deal of hard work and preparation, and I am very proud of their accomplishments.

- Daniel Hall, Teacher of History and Debating Coordinator

"On Saturday, 12 students representing the delegations of Colombia and Germany in the Historical, Political, Environmental, Health, Human Rights, EcoFin, Security Council, and SPECCOM committees took part in the Stonyhurst Model United Nations conference. This was the third conference that Rossall has attended. Well done to all those who participated, especially since it was the first conference for many of you! A special well done to James W and Nouria F for their committee awards, and George M for guest chairing the EcoFin committee. This was such an enjoyable experience for me personally, as it was my first time chairing a SPECCOM committee, and I hope it was the same for everyone who attended too!"

- Prisha V, Year 13

"The MUN conference was a fun and exciting experience, not just for the debates but for the people I met along the way. I made genuine friendships through lobbying, shared nerves, and lots of laughter, which made the whole experience feel even more meaningful. What stood out most to me was how female dominated the space was, notably my Committee, the Security Council. It was inspiring to see so many confident, articulate women leading discussions, negotiating boldly, and supporting one another."

- Tise I, Year 12

“My experience at the MUN conference at Stonyhurst 2026 was truly different and entrancing. As soon as we arrived, the air and presence of the school sent chills down my spine. It was very interesting to visit such a historical and religious school. The museum, chapel, and even the entrance set the whole vibe of Stonyhurst.

I was very nervous at first because I had heard that they were a competitive school, and I expected them to be very good. I was scared to go against all these different schools, especially in a debating environment. However, as soon as we arrived, we were greeted kindly with refreshments and so on.

My committee itself was quite different, but luckily the people were social, and honestly it was not as awkward as I thought it would be. I also want to mention the speech in the opening ceremony. It was very inspiring and eye opening. Finally, at the end, we had the crisis in Russia. It was definitely a sight to see, and I ended my Stonyhurst MUN experience by being awarded a commended delegate as Germany in the Health Committee, which I was very proud of.”

- Nouria, Year 13
