Cinderella Review
“The Scholars Theatre Society’s performance of Cinderella offered a fresh and inspiring take on the classic tale, made all the more impressive by the fact that the entire production was student-generated from concept to execution. Directed by Annabelle Charles and supported by Sophie Tarbuck and Blossom Murdoch, this ambitious project brought together GCSE and A-level students to lead a company spanning Year 7 through Year 13, showcasing a remarkable collaboration across ages and experience levels.
What emerged was a newly devised version of Cinderella that felt both original and heartfelt. The student leadership was evident throughout: in the bold creative choices, in the staging shaped by collective imagination, and in the confident, thoughtful performances of the cast. The atmosphere in the room was one of genuine ownership, with every student contributing to something they helped build from the ground up.
One of the most striking aspects of the evening was the visible mentoring between older and younger students. The production became more than a performance; it was a celebration of learning, creativity, and supportive relationships, the kind that develop when students are trusted to guide and uplift one another. For parents in the audience, this was a rare and meaningful glimpse into a collaborative process that often happens behind the scenes.
Particularly encouraging is that this work will extend beyond the school community with an upcoming performance at Brian House, the local children’s hospice. The opportunity for students to bring joy and creativity to children facing challenging circumstances adds a deeply moving and purposeful dimension to their work.
Overall, this was a wonderful evening—warm, inventive, and powered by student-led theatre. It stood as a testament to what young people can achieve when given the space to lead, create, and inspire."
