Another year of outstanding GCSE results highlights continued commitment to excellence at Rossall School
Following on from the excellent results achieved by Rossall’s Sixth Formers in their A Level, BTEC and IBDP examinations, this week it has been the turn of Year 11 pupils to celebrate their success.
Rossall pupils continue to impress as year on year results go from strength to strength - we once again celebrate our best ever 7 - 9 or A*/A rate from public examinations, which this year stands at 43%. Additionally, well over a quarter of entries achieved a grade 8 or 9 - the equivalent of an A*.
Rossall prides itself on the value added to each and every pupil and despite being non-selective in its intake, with many pupils sitting examinations in their second or even third language, the number of top grades achieved at Rossall is just under double the national average.
An impressive number of pupils achieved a clean sweep of top grades with Emma, Timofei, Sam, Teddy, Ellie-Rose and Chee, each amassing nine or more grade 7 - 9s. Also, for the second year in a row, one of our students, Sofiia, has been recognised as one of the highest performers in the country for the Art, Craft and Design GCSE - a testament to an exceptional Art Department where over a third of pupils achieved a Grade 9. Other subjects of particular note, where the 9 - 7 / A*- A rate was 60% or over, include English, Further Mathematics, Religious Studies and German.
Headmaster, Andrew McBride stated: “We are thrilled to celebrate another outstanding set of GCSE results at Rossall School. This year’s successes reflect not only exceptional academic achievement and strong value added, but also the resilience, character and values that our students embody each day.
Following on from our record-breaking IB, A Level and BTEC results, these outcomes affirm the consistency of excellence across all areas of the School. We are proud to see Rossallians thriving as well-rounded individuals who combine ambition with integrity and compassion.
We extend heartfelt thanks to our staff for their tireless dedication and to the whole Rossall community for working together towards our shared vision. Congratulations to our students on this richly deserved success – we now look forward to welcoming our Year 11 into the Rossall Sixth Form, where they will continue to flourish both academically and personally.”
The school maintains a strong commitment to academic excellence and aims to provide pupils with an opportunity to excel in and pursue their passions. It is a particular source of pride that we can offer pupils many additional opportunities for qualifications, including courses in Astronomy, Business and Ancient Greek. This year, a number of Year 9 pupils were entered for the much valued Higher Projects Qualification (HPQ) and Foundation Projects Qualification (FPQ) as part of the Rossall INSPIRE programme, achieving 100% A* - B grades in research projects that evidence both intellectual curiosity and academic rigour.
Deputy Head (Academic), Catherine Stacker, observed: “Rossall’s outstanding results are a shining example of the determination and resilience of our pupils and the dedication of our exceptional teachers. They reflect the ambition and ethos at the heart of a Rossall education — an education that inspires young people to exceed their potential and embrace every opportunity. While grades are only one part of the journey, these results showcase the strength of a Rossall education: dynamic, ambitious, and enriching in every sense. We are immensely proud of each and every one of our pupils.”
Rossall prides itself on delivering an education that supports the development of character as well as the pursuit of academic excellence. Alongside their academic studies, our pupils participate in extensive commitments beyond the classroom, benefiting from a rich co-curricular programme that culminates in joy, personal growth and success across sports, the performing arts, the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and the Duke of Edinburgh to name but a few. Many pupils also take part in the School’s signature programmes including the Piano Academy and the Dance Academy, as well as participating in the hugely successful sports programmes, including signature Football partnered with MCFC and Golf where we regularly compete for the top spot on the national stage. The destinations of our Year 13 leavers are a testament to the well-rounded education and the phenomenal opportunities that pupils at Rossall enjoy. This year, once again over 80% of our pupils have accepted places at Russell Group / Top 20 Universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London and Durham. A considerable number of pupils are embarking on 100% sports scholarships to the United States, and others are pursuing very competitive degree-apprenticeship programmes.
Deputy Head (Sixth Form) Nick Crombie, is looking forward to welcoming this year’s incoming Year 12 cohort. He states, ‘it has been a great pleasure getting to know this cohort throughout the past two years of GCSE study. They have committed themselves wholeheartedly and the success is clear for all to see. They will bring fantastic energy and determination into an ambitious Sixth Form cohort and I am excited to work with them in the next stage of their education.’
While success can be measured in grades, we are especially proud of our pupils who have shown remarkable resilience and tenacity in the face of personal challenges. Their effort and courage stand as a true testament to their strength and spirit.
