Summer - Week 9

FROM THE PREPARATORY SCHOOL HEADMASTER

Dear All

This week has been a celebration of all that makes our School community so special, with a packed schedule of events, achievements, and memorable experiences.

On Tuesday, the excitement was palpable as pupils took part in our annual House Challenge Day. With suitcase races, "The Floor is Lava," orienteering, dodgeball, tug of war, and many other activities, it was a day filled with energy, teamwork, and House spirit. The enthusiasm and commitment shown by all pupils was a true testament to the strength of our community.

with love from chapel

It was a special day for the chapel today as next year’s Year 7’s embarked on a treasure hunt through the building. What started tentatively - and with a slight air of apprehension and genuine awe - quickly turned into an avid competition to find stories in windows, names on honours-boards and the name of the handsome wooden man standing on a dragon in Memorial Chapel…..(It turned out to be St George)

ROSSALL NEWS

the Rossall Rose Society 2024-25

The Rossall Rose Society has flourished over the last three years, and certainly during 2024 - 2025. The greatest success has to be the Christmas Market, fulfilling our aims of Community, Friendship, Charity and Outreach.

September's Macmillan Coffee Morning, organised by Amanda Holt, remains a popular event for parents, friends and students, where we were able to donate £550 to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The continued success of the Christmas Market never ceases to amaze; 3 indoor venues, stalls around the Square, 100 stallholders, the outside funfair and 4,000 visitors. For the third year running, we were blessed with torrential rain and wind, but this was not enough to dampen our spirits. The Rossall Rose Society was delighted to donate £3,000 to Brian House Children’s Hospice and £200 to Blackpool Homestart.

The Sixth Form Leavers’ Ball is always a highlight. While it can be hectic running the bar, we thankfully have a team of experienced mums who can ‘shake the cocktails’.

The annual Colour Run and BBQ was amazing. Organised by Carla Clarke and sponsored by Blackpool Pleasure Beach. The good weather attracted over 100 runners who ended up thoroughly covered in chalk. The event was run in aid of Brian House Children’s Hospice, and we donated £625 to this worthy local charity.

In summary, Rossall Rose has donated £4,375 to local charities and £5,600 to the School for major items with a grand total of £9,9975 for 2024 - 2025.

The success of all the events and the impressive sums raised for charity would not have been possible without the willingness, hard work, generosity and dedication of the Rossall Rose committee, parents and school staff. Thank you would never be enough to express our gratitude.

Rossall School CCF Band: A Memorable Visit to Wellington Barracks

We are excited to share that Rossall School is in the process of forming its very own CCF (Combined Cadet Force) band. As part of this exciting new initiative, nine of our founding band members were incredibly fortunate to receive an invitation to attend Wellington Barracks in London on a school trip for a special musical experience.

During their visit, the pupils spent the morning with the prestigious Band of the Household Division, gaining valuable insights and inspiration. The highlight of the day was an extraordinary opportunity to witness the Changing of the Guard ceremony from inside the grounds of Buckingham Palace, an honour rarely afforded to the public.

It is worth noting that Rossall boasts the distinction of having the oldest CCF unit in the country, a proud legacy we continue to build upon.

We look forward to seeing our new CCF band flourish in the months ahead!

year 12 scholarship tea

On Thursday, we hosted our Year 12 Scholarship Tea, an evening dedicated to celebrating the achievements of our newest Year 12 scholars. The event featured inspiring talks from current Rossall students, Ava and Erin, and a heartfelt message from Rossall's new Headmaster, Andrew McBride, who reminded everyone: "Some of us were born here, some of us were drawn here, but we can all call it home."

or careers day

On Friday, we welcomed Old Rossallians back to Rossall for our OR Fayre. It was a valuable opportunity for our current Sixth Form students to connect with former pupils, gaining insight into life at university and the challenges and experiences they’ve faced in their early careers since graduating from Rossall.

Thank you so much to all our ORs for giving up their valuable time. We are so grateful for your support of our current students.

WELLBEING AMBASSADOR

This week, one of our Year 13 students, Kate Irving, found herself in London at an event hosted by Beyond, a growing youth mental health charity. Kate was our lead Wellbeing Ambassador at Rossall this past academic year, and in March, she was shortlisted for the national Above and Beyond Award for her wellbeing work here at school. As a result of this nomination, Kate became a Beyond Youth Board Member and will now work alongside the charity to support national initiatives focused on improving youth mental health. During the event, Kate was able to network with other youth board members from around the UK and listen to keynote speakers on the themes of mental health and wellbeing. We are so proud of our Wellbeing Ambassadors here at Rossall and the important work they do to help us all recognise and focus on our mental health.

This great news also coincides with World Wellbeing Week which has the theme of ‘Gratitude’ this year. We have encouraged pupils during tutor time to contribute to our virtual Gratitude Wall. We have also spent this year focusing on acts of kindness amongst pupils. Each Monday morning, we recognise individuals who went above and beyond to support others in the Rossall community the previous week. It has been a powerful uplift on a Monday morning to remember and note what kindness can do for us all, and how fortunate we are to be surrounded by such caring young people.

RAF Spadeadam

A fantastic week has been had by all cadets at RAF Spadeadam. Cadets from the RAF and Royal Navy sections have completed a week’s camp, taking part in a variety of exercises and activities, and learning about RAF Spadeadam’s work. Highlights included the fieldcraft exercise “Operation Bluestreak” and getting hands-on with the different equipment around the station.

THE ROSSALLIAN

We are delighted to announce the new edition of The Rossallian.

Once again, The Rossallian will be available in both print and digital formats, reaching alumni, parents, staff, and friends of Rossall, as well as prospective families at open days and visits.

To support this initiative at no cost to the school, we are once again partnered with Timesed Ltd to invite a selection of high-quality local and regional businesses to advertise in our newspaper. We are grateful to those who have already participated and helped to make this publication possible.

As valued members of our school community, we want to ensure you have the first opportunity to take part. If you would like to learn more about advertising options within The Rossallian, please contact Carl Huyton directly at carl.huyton@times-ed.co.uk. Carl will also be reaching out to other local businesses in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your continued support in making The Rossallian a valuable and engaging publication for the Rossall community.
