Student success

Congratulations to Fabian B in Year 12, winner of the Michaelmas Investment Club, after achieving an outstanding 14.9% portfolio growth since September. With global markets particularly choppy over the last few months, this return is especially impressive. Investment Club aims to develop students’ understanding of investing through online paper trading, allowing them to experience real-world market conditions without financial risk.

The student who grows their portfolio by the greatest amount wins a box of Swiss chocolates. Investment Club will run again in Lent term, taking place Tuesdays after school.

A fantastic achievement for Frankie S, who not only earned his place in the ISFA U18 Boys Representative Squad but also made an immediate impact by scoring the opening goal against the Scotland Schools FA.

His hard work, determination, and talent were on full display, marking a proud moment for both him and everyone who has supported his journey.

Jack H Competes in North West Schools Biathlon National Qualifier

On 28 December, Jack represented Rossall School at the North West Schools Biathlon National Qualifier, held at Salt Ayre.

Jack produced a very positive performance, achieving a total score of 2,040 points. This places him in a strong position as the qualification process continues and keeps him well in contention for selection to the British Schools Biathlon National Championships, which will take place in Bath in March.

Jack was delighted with his performance on the day and remains highly motivated to continue developing his combined swimming and running through Pentathlon GB events. Representing Rossall once again meant a great deal to him, and he greatly values the support and encouragement he receives from the school.

Alongside his success in the biathlon, Jack has also qualified for six events at the 2026 Lancashire County Swimming Championships, which will take place at the end of January. This marks a significant step forward from last year, when he competed in two events.

Well done to Jack on his continued sporting achievements.

Morocco Expedition July 2027

Rossall School invites you to join an online talk about our exciting Morocco expedition, running in July 2027.

This is a life-changing opportunity for students to explore Morocco with expert guides, while developing their life skills, confidence and independence. We’re partnering with World Challenge to offer this 13-night trip, which complements school learning. Here is a short video to give you a feel for what World Challenge is all about!

Applications are already open, so please visit our trip webpage for the sign-up link, itinerary, travel dates, Covid-secure booking terms and trip cost – examples of how past students have earned this themselves will be covered in the talk.

Paul from World Challenge will host the 30-minute Zoom presentation on Thursday 22nd January 6pm. Please come along and ask any questions, or just listen in.

WEEKEND FUN FOR OUR boarding Community

Boarders enjoyed a successful Sunday afternoon trip to the Pleasure Beach Arena, taking part in an ice skating session as part of the Lent term programme of activities.

The group travelled by coach from school and spent two hours on the ice, with pupils of all abilities taking part - from confident skaters practising their technique to first-timers building confidence with support from friends and staff. The session provided a lively and enjoyable opportunity for exercise, resilience, and social time away from the school site.

Despite the cold conditions inside the rink, spirits were high throughout, and the trip was a great example of how boarders make the most of shared experiences beyond the classroom. Pupils returned to school in good time, having thoroughly enjoyed an active and sociable afternoon.

The ice skating trip was one of several Sunday activities planned for boarders this Lent term, offering a varied programme of sporting, cultural, and recreational opportunities.

What a wonderful start to the term we have had. The school always feels vibrant again once students have returned. Our PSHE theme for this term is “Living in the Wider World”, and we will be focusing on goal setting, future plans, and financial literacy across the senior school. With that in mind, I have attached a parent guide this week which gives tips on educating young people about spending and saving, so that these messages might be reinforced at home as well.

ways to be WELL AT ROSSALl

with love from chapel

Have you made any New Year’s resolutions?
Will they last?
Or might you already have given up?

This week in chapel, we have talked about making new commitments and dedicating ourselves to the things that are important to us in the year ahead.

Some of you might have seen when Gabriel Jesus finished 2025 with a remarkable comeback on the football field and chose to dedicate it to God. While he is not the first to make this gesture (and will likely not be the last), it was a great reminder, just before heading into a new year, that it is important to show conviction and confidence in what you believe.

Now, football authorities were not happy with him, and it’s likely that he knew this. He chose to do it anyway and to face the consequences for sharing his confidence that he is a child of God. This was a committed display of faith and dedication to what he believes in.

I wonder if this is something to take into 2026: to stand up a bit more, speak a bit louder, and advocate a bit more passionately for the things that make us who we are.

With God’s rich blessings for 2026!
Your,
Kerstin Dixon
